Alright, I know, I'm a bit late organizing this "May Event." May was a stressful time for me. I'm good now, tho, and besides, tying it to some given month seems a bit arbitrary, doesn't it? ;)
Anyway, check out the initial introduction to this idea. Done? Good. We're about to ramp up into phase two.
The next thing you should do is join the group. This is going to be our headquarters, the place where we're going to collect the top original newsvine content and prepare it for export into the larger world.
So here's the schedule:
- Announcement: I am going to write a "Welcome to Newsvine" post. The idea is going to be to introduce, concisely and attractively, some of newsvine's strong points. I'm going to mention X Y and Z and then state that in the next few weeks there are going to be a lot of stories coming out of newsvine.com. I will ask readers to keep an open mind and check them out. I will then Digg this story under the title "Newsvine Community Goes Public." Within an hour, I want every interested newsviner to Digg it up so that we can get on the front page. Then I want you all to submit links to the story to any relevant social news/bookmarking websites. The idea is to get name recognition all over the place, so all the web2.0 hipsters won't be able to go anywhere without seeing Newsvine for a day or two. However, before we're ready to do that...
- ...We need to compile a list of Really Fucking Good Original Articles. I want you to scour your personal clipped articles and the columns of your favorite writers and clip the best original writing you find to the Newsvine Blitz group. Note: No Seeds! We need a build-up of critical mass. Once the original introduction article has had a bit of time to circulate, I want to start introducing all of these other articles. Everything will be sent to digg (so sign up for a digg account if you don't have one) but I'd also like to send things...
- ...to other aggregator blogs. We've already discussed this a little bit, but try to compile a list of other sites you go to where you think the readers will be interested in newsvine content. We want to do this like a shameless (but tasteful) marketing burst.
So, the first thing to do is to join the group and clip in really good original articles. You can even nominate your own, I suppose, but they better be damn good. Once we have, say, 20 articles in there I'll write my introduction and we can discuss the logistics of the launch.
Is everyone cool with this?
